Greetings from the coast of Maine.

It was a peaceful Sunday morning in Blue Hill. April, like winter (only worse), cold and damp, chills to the bone when you expect the warmth of spring. Not fair!

After breakfast, we visited one of our most favorite places. In the years before we moved to Maine, we rented this house and spent many happy summers there. It’s all buttoned up for winter, but still looks warm and friendly to us.

We enjoyed the view.

We shared important thoughts.

And then it was time to go…

Until the next time.

Please come see our Winter Wonderland or visit our website . And don’t forget, balsam wreaths are here.

We’ll begin shipping fresh balsam wreaths on Monday, November 28th. I make all the red velvet bows and David does the rest. It’s strictly a family affair with Jack assuming his usual supervisory role.

Greetings from the coast of Maine.

November is well under way. Even the oaks, the very last holdouts, have lost their leaves. Temperatures have begun to fall and (no) thanks to Daylight Savings Time, it is dark at 5:00 o’clock, too early for man or beast.

We’re busy burning the midnight oil as we prepare for our 8th annual Christmas Open House which begins on Thursday 11/17. Christmas officially arrives at The Meadow when we install the tree and hold our collective breath as we try the lights. Eureka, they work! In another few days, we’ll look like a winter wonderland clad in red and green.

Christmas means wreaths and we will begin shipping ours soon. Our fresh balsam wreaths are the perfect Christmas gift. Each one is made from scratch by our local friends who collect the Balsam Fir brush after several hard freezes.

(The needles aren’t well set until after they have been frozen a couple of times.) We’ll begin shipping on Monday, November 28th just after Thanksgiving. I make all the red velvet bows and David does the rest. It’s strictly a family affair with Jack assuming his usual supervisory role.

Each wreath measures 24’ in diameter and is double sided. Weighing in at 4 pounds, they are hefty and full, nothing like what you see on the sidewalk at the supermarket. And did I mention that they smell divine?

We’ll write your enclosure card by hand, pack your wreath in a lovely white box, and off they’ll go. You can buy our wreaths online by clicking here or you can download our printable order form and do it the old fashioned way, by mail or fax. Naturally, you can call us with your order. We always love to hear from you!

Greetings from the coast of Maine.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Whose idea was this anyway? It’s far too early for wintah. We awoke to snow and howling wind last Sunday. First order of business after building a fire and brewing a pot of coffee was to shovel, shovel then shovel some more. The snow was not kind to our still leafy trees. Branches were bent to the ground under the weight of the heavy, wet snow; it’s nature’s way of pruning.

We are none the worse for wear as most of the snow has come and gone. And believe it or not, our Christmas Open House is just weeks away, November 17th to be exact. We’re already busy trimming the shop and suddenly find ourselves steeped in red and green. We were starkly reminded of the coming season when we received our first, unsolicited balsam wreath order from a customer in Louisville, Kentucky before we announced the beginning of the wreath season. Well folks, we’re never too smart to be taken to school by our customers. So here you go: its officially Balsam Wreath Season!

We think our fresh balsam wreaths are the perfect quintessential gift of Christmas. Our wreaths are made locally by friends who collect the balsam fir brush after several hard freezes then make the wreaths from scratch. The needles aren’t well set until after they have been frozen a couple of times. We begin taking delivery of finished wreaths just before Thanksgiving and will begin shipping on Monday, November 28th. I make all the red velvet bows and David ties on the beautiful Ponderosa pinecones and boxes and ships them all. It’s strictly a family affair with Jack assuming his usual supervisory role.
